Don’t Cast Your Pearls Before Swine

By Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast. ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them. under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Matthew 7:6

How many of us have been in this situation of giving our pearls to swine? Me included. For me it has mostly come in the form of toxic romantic relationships and friendships with toxic people.

What’s so important about Matthew 7:6 is that it shows us that we need to treat ourselves with value. That we hold ourselves in such high regard that we do not allow others to take advantage of us and use us when we generously give of ourselves to other people.

Give Your Inner Child A Hug Today

By Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

In every adult there lurks a child; an eternal child, someone that is always becoming, and is never completed, and calls for unceasing care, attention, and education. That is the part of the personality which wants to develop and become whole.

Carl G. Jung

The inner child. That beautiful, sweet, innocent, magical, and pure part of ourselves. That little boy or girl who wants to play, who wants to laugh, who wants to sing, who wants to discover, who has an eternal curiosity about the wonders of the world.

Often as adults we forget this part of ourselves. Though we are housed in these awkward grown bodies, busily going through daily life with responsibilities, burdens, and never ending bills to pay, that little kid in us is still there.

Wanting to come out, to feel the sunshine on their face, to play in the dirt and feel the mud squish between their toes. To gleefully jump into a huge pile of leaves, or if you are in Canada where I live this time of year, to gleefully jump into a huge snow bank.

So hug your inner child today. Remind them that they are loved, wanted, protected, needed, and safe. Tell them that is is ok to come out and play, to explore, to experience unbridled joy. The adult part of you will thank you.

The Saint

By Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

Saint Francis of Assisi

The Saint

As soon as beauty is known by the world as beautiful, it becomes ugly

As soon as virtue becomes known as something good, it becomes evil

Therefore being and non-being give birth to each other

Difficult and easy accomplish each other

Long and short form each other

High and low distinguish each other

Sound and tone harmonize each other

Before and after follow each other as a sequence

Realizing this, ‘The Saint’ performs effortlessly according to the natural way without personal desire, and practices the wordless teaching through one’s deeds

‘The Saint’ inspires the vitality of all lives, without holding back

He nurtures all beings with no wish to take possession of them

He devotes all of his energy but has no intention to hold on to the meritt

When success is achieved, he seeks no recognition

Because he does not claim for the credit, hence he shall not lose it

Halloween Madness!! Meet My Demon Cat

By Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

Miss Grizz…pure evil in a seemingly sweet kitty body!!

Last year on Halloween, my son took this picture of our kitty Miss Grizz. Obviously it is a trick of the camera but wow, the picture creeped us all out with her seemingly demon eyes.

Normally she is very sweet, kind, loving and isn’t a jerk like some cats. Though the odd time she likes to poop on my bed for some reason, and occasionally when we are cuddling her she will bite our noses. However for the most part she is the sweetest thing on the planet.

Miss Grizz…just chillin out on one of her non-demon days

Using the Incredible Power of ‘NO J.A.D.E.’ When Dealing With Narcissists

By Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

Empower yourself with the NO J.A.D.E. rule

Our society is currently facing an epidemic of narcissism. Though there is a vast difference between a person who is a clinical narcissist versus someone who only has narcissistic traits, the devastation and abuse caused to the people around them is the same.

What is narcissistic personality disorder? The DSM 5 defines it as:

A pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration, and lack of empathy, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

1. Has a grandiose sense of self-importance (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents, expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements).

2. Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance, beauty, or ideal love.

3. Believes that he or she is “special” and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high status people (or institutions).

4. Requires excessive admiration.

5. Has a sense of entitlement, i.e., unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment or automatic compliance with his or her expectations.

6. Is interpersonally exploitative, i.e., takes advantage of others to achieve his or her own ends.

7. Lacks empathy: is unwilling to recognize or identify with the feelings and needs of others

8. Is often envious of others or believes that others are envious of him or her.

9. Shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes

DSM 5 Criteria For Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Though it is hard to feel sympathy for a narcissist, they are actually very damaged people who hide behind the mask of grandiosity because of emotional wounding they themselves have received. This emotional wounding often occurs in childhood at the hands of narcissistic parents and is a cycle that is passed down through generations. An extremely toxic cycle of abuse that is damaging to the narcissist, the people around them, and society in general.

Making the Choice to Be Authentically Me

By Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

I’ve been coloring my hair for over 20 years. Last week when I was at the local drugstore to purchase the monthly ‘box of lies’ to put in my hair something came over me and I decided not buy the hair dye. I didn’t want to do it anymore. Tired of the harsh chemicals, tired of the expense, tired of feeling like I needed to look different than I naturally am.

I’m not against people dying their hair or altering their looks; in fact self expression is a very positive thing and should be encouraged. However I was coloring my hair for the wrong reasons.

A New Beginning 10/10/2019

by Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

Rising from the ashes

On September 21/2019, I had a brain hemorrhage out of the blue in the middle of the night. That experience was likely the most frightening, yet incredible experience of my life.

Why would this be one of the most incredible experiences of my life and not one of the worst?

Having to go through something harrowing like that where I thought I might die has completely changed my outlook on life. I was already a very happy person and my life seemed to be going pretty good. I have done a lot of work on self growth and improvement over the last three years or so, and as a result of that I was feeling great in all aspects of my life.

However, there were still few small things that I didn’t even realize I needed to take care of in life until I had my brain hemorrhage.

A Story of a Girl Born in Sweden 1897-1994; Part 1

by Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

As my grandmother was going through some old family things she happened upon an amazing treasure; my great grandmother Hilda (Helda) Johnson’s diary. It contains lot of very incredible and often humorous stories from a time long gone. My great grandma Johnson was born in Tollarp, Kristianstad, Skåne County, Sweden in 1897, and I’ve decided to share this beautiful gift that she left for us. The following are the exact and unaltered words straight from her.

Mom Johnson’s Life Story (In Her Own Words)

A Story of a Girl Born in Sweden, by Hilda Johnson

My name is Hilda Johnson (Malmberg). My Dad’s father was Carl Nilson. That was my Dad’s name too. When Dad became a soldier and went into the army, he had to change his name from Nilson to Frisk. That was his first soldier name. My Dad did not like that name, so he asked for a new name.

The officer said ‘No, you keep that name’.

My Dad took the officer by the neck of his shirt and seat of his pants and threw the officer on his bunk bed.

Dad said ‘Now will you give me my new name?’

The officer said ‘Yes, yes, yes’

That is how my Dad got his new name Malmberg. My Dad could have gotten into jail for doing that. Dad was not a common soldier for he was an officer. This all happened before Dad was married.

A Skunk Brought Me The Message Today Of Setting Gentle Boundaries

By Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

A baby skunk – what a cute little stinker!!!

I often go for nature walks and when I do, I usually ask for spirit to bring me messages. Sometimes it will come in the form of an odd animal sighting or seeing something out of place in the natural world. Today was no exception.

As I was walking around the lake this morning, three skunks came waddling out of the trees and walked right in front of me on the path. Fortunately the little stinkers never saw me, so I was saved from possibly getting sprayed.

How to Manifest a Relationship?

By Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

The reason I have put the question mark at the end of the title of this post is that I have no clue how to manifest a relationship. I am not an expert at relationships in any way; in fact I have one failed marriage and a failed long term relationship after my marriage ended. I do not wish to throw shade on either of my two ex-partners, we just were not meant to be. So because of this, I am adding a disclaimer that I am not a professional at giving relationship advice to anyone.

However, I have been single now for almost 6 years, I am in my mid 40’s, and I am feeling that I would like to try again.

Maybe.

A Rude Awakening – My Experience Having a Brain Hemorrhage

By Jennifer Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

On September 21/2019 at 2:30 am, I woke up in incredible pain; I felt like someone had cracked me in the back of the skull with a baseball bat.

Searing pain. I tried to get out of bed, however, I fell on the floor instead unable to get my bearings. ‘What is going on?’ Blurred vision, extreme vertigo, words not coming out of my mouth properly, unable to walk, severe vomiting, completely delirious, and incoherent.

My children ended up needing to call an ambulance for me, and they had to watch from inside the house as their mother was taken away to the hospital with them having no clue as to what was wrong with me.

The Difference Between ‘Surrendering’ and ‘Allowing’

by Jennifer Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

Surrender vs. Allow

Many of us who are on a spiritual path in life will come across the concept of surrendering at one point

‘Surrender and go with the flow’

‘Surrender to a higher power’

On the surface this seems like a good thing to do. However, what does it actually mean to surrender?

Definition of surrender:

– to yield to the power, control, or possession of another upon compulsion or demand

– to give up completely or agree to forgo especially in favor of another

– to give (oneself) up into the power of another especially as a prisoner

Miriam Webster Dictionary

It seems that by definition, when we surrender we are giving up our power to something else. Quitting. Becoming the prisoner of another.

How To Make Your Own Luxury Soap Easily From Scratch

by Jennifer Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

Soapmaking is one of my favorite hobbies! It’s easy, fun, and very cost effective to make your own soap

A few years ago, I made the decision to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Part of this was changing my diet to exclude all processed foods and switch to a chemical free diet of whole foods. Now I do understand that we can’t completely get away from chemicals in our diet. The aggressive use of agro-chemicals has caused toxins such as glyphosate to enter into our food chain. Unfortunately these have trickled down from agricultural use and are now found in every part of our natural environment. Despite not having the choice to be completely chemical free, switching to a diet void of processed foods has made a significant impact on my mental and physical health.

Part of adopting a chemical free diet was also the decision to stop putting manufactured chemically based beauty products on my skin. The skin is our largest organ and anything we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies. I began tinkering with making my own body creams, soaps, and perfumes from all natural ingredients and soon discovered that the various homemade beauty products that I was able to create myself actually performed far better than anything I could buy in the store. Plus, making my own potions and lotions proved to be very cost effective – even when using high end luxury ingredients.

Facing Fears To Make Major Shifts In Life

by Jennifer Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

Facing fears – scary but rewarding!

The last few days have been a whirlwind of activity for me which were spent dealing with an illness in the family as well as finally facing my fears to make some major shifts in life and follow my true passion and calling.

Facing our fears is not an easy thing

What if I’m not good enough?

Will I be able to do this?

Am I ‘nuts’ to think that this can actually work?

Is following my heart over my head a good idea?

Should I do what everyone else around me is telling me to do, or should I be brave and do what ‘me’ is telling me to do?

These are some of the questions I have been struggling with concerning a decision I needed to make in regards to my future. Do I take the red pill or the blue pill?

Saying Goodbye To Someone You Love With Peace And Compassion

by Jennifer Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

Walking away from someone you love is very painful

If you love you don’t let go. The thing you let go of is the experience.

Yogi Grand master Akshar

Many of us have had the experience of deeply and truly loving another person, but for whatever reason it doesn’t work out. Bad timing, individually wanting different things, people and circumstances beyond our control that are interfering in the situation, outgrowing each other. There can be many causes for a relationship to fall apart; even one that is based on real love.

So how do we let go of a person whom we honestly love without condition in a way that is compassionate with the understanding that some things are not meant to be? How do we give up clinging onto the hope that something will change in a situation that is clearly not working in its present form?

Letting go of someone is very difficult and painful where there is mutual love with a deep bond, but the realization is eventually reached that the relationship is not healthy.
