Making the Choice to Be Authentically Me

By Jen Zmurchyk – Prairie Sky Wellness

I’ve been coloring my hair for over 20 years. Last week when I was at the local drugstore to purchase the monthly ‘box of lies’ to put in my hair something came over me and I decided not buy the hair dye. I didn’t want to do it anymore. Tired of the harsh chemicals, tired of the expense, tired of feeling like I needed to look different than I naturally am.

I’m not against people dying their hair or altering their looks; in fact self expression is a very positive thing and should be encouraged. However I was coloring my hair for the wrong reasons.

Feeling like I somehow wasn’t good enough without changing my looks

Comparing myself to others

Trying to meet an unrealistic image of beauty that I had created when in fact I’m already beautiful as is

So I decided to shave it all off and start over….a clean slate. I don’t even know what my natural hair color is at this point in life because it’s been continuously covered by dye since I was in my early 20’s. It seems to be growing in a very beautiful silver and black color; I will see in the coming weeks what it actually looks like.

What it looks like to be truly me

Authentic, unaltered, and unapologetic
