A Fox Brought Me The Warning Of A Trickster In My Life

Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes) – Native to the entire Northern Hemisphere and one of the species of fox found in Canada

I live on the prairies of western Canada, and have always had a keen interest in nature. Canada is an amazing place full of wide open natural areas which vary from the towering rocky mountains, northern boreal forests, arctic tundra, wide open prairies, and warm coastal areas. I also live in an place rich in the history of Canada’s First Nations People who have a very close connection with nature and for them seeing animals is significant as they are considered messengers from spirit.

I have spent many hours of my life in the outdoors and though red foxes are a native species in Canada, I have rarely seen one in the wild. So when I was on my deck the other day and saw a red fox snooping around behind my house I knew it was highly unusual. I live in the city, and though I am on the outskirts of town I rarely see wild animals other than deer.

Anytime I notice birds or animals that seem out of place. I pay attention and when I saw the fox I knew instinctively that it was a warning from spirit.
(see my post here about a hummingbird that brought me luck).

According to the First Nations People:

“Fox as a Spirit Animal comes to you during times of change, particularly challenging or unpredictable ones. Many people are slow to move out of their comfort zones even when situations call for responsiveness and flexibility. Fox energy says, “You must act, but do so wisely.”

As a messenger from spirit, fox shows up when there is trouble afoot and often signifies a cunning trickster coming into our life or a situation where we need to be cautious and careful of illusions.

The message proved to be very true and the warning was significant. A recurring personal situation had popped up in my life again in the form of a someone from my past and this person returned seemingly out of nowhere the day after I saw the fox. It was a situation where I had previously worn ‘rose colored glasses’ and had denied seeing the truth of things which eventually resulted in me having a broken heart. Thankfully I heeded the warning of the fox and this time when the person came back, I was able to take off the rose colored glasses and see past the illusions for what the situation truly was.

Is it possible that seeing a fox in an odd place in the city was a coincidence? Perhaps. However, I am grateful to that little messenger as he helped me to understand that not all people in our lives are honest and acting in integrity. It is up to us to see past illusions and pay attention to any red flags that come up regarding other people. (see my post here about self love)

To ignore our intuition when it comes to others is not acting with love and care towards ourselves.

Yes it is possible for people to change – I am one of those who has made significant progress in my life to become a person of integrity. However this person had not changed or grown in any way. It is not a good thing to give someone the benefit of the doubt even if we care about them when we know deep inside that they will only hurt us again. It is important to always pay attention to the red flags, and if a fox shows up again in my life I will take the warning seriously.
